I've not written in two weeks.
I'll try to do better. It's been pretty busy at work though. Everybody on the hill has a lot to do right now. We were supposed to recess until next year when we start a new session, but with the "Emergency Economic Stimulus Plan" in Congress nobody can leave because the President wants something passed so pretty much nobody leaves until that happens. It's not bad though. I rather like work, but I don't want to do it forever. I think I will like working as an engineer. Hopefully, we'll know for sure after next semester.
I e-mailed Richard Harrell with the MDEQ solid waste and mining permitting branch with my resume last week and he e-mailed me back this morning saying he would like to talk to me about CO-OPing and interning and that he would be at State October 16th and would like to meet with me individually. I had to e-mail him back since I am in DC until December and he said he would call me later on in the week. I would really love this opportunity since it means that I would be doing something I am very interested in. Even though it means I would be living in Jackson and not Starkville.
I have been going to the gym for 1.5 to 2+ hours every day. Hopefully when I come home, the people close to me will notice. Maybe. I'm working very hard for it to happen.

I've been a work a week and I like it a lot. Last week I did a lot of really interesting things such as visit the VP's office and go places in the capitol other people can't.
Living here has gotten a lot better too. I'm really starting to ignore most of the things my housemates say, which is good. I'm also walking around a lot so I'm learning the city. It's so nice on the hill.

Hope Now
see relatedToday wasn't what I would call a good day. It started off well enough, and was a very slow day, which on Capitol Hill is very rare indeed. However, about half of the house is liberal with the other half conservative, and I am the only conservative female in the house. Most of the time this would not bother me, but today it did for some reason. One of the reasons, I believe, is because of a few comments such as "I don't see why any American would want to be Republican." I don't see how, if our country is to survive and thrive, how we can be anything other than conservative. I also don't see how anybody can say that McCain is conservative, because to me, he's not. It's easy to see that next to Obama, he's conservative, but only barely. I am very happy about his choice in a running mate. I haven't done that much research on her, but from what I can see Sarah Palin is right where we need our president to be in terms of political views.
The thing that is even worse is that my roommate and I don't get along very well. She's extremely liberal where as I am the exact opposite.
Another problem I have is the fact that all of my house mates are either studying political science or business, so their mindset is very different from my "logical" engineering mindset. It makes it very hard to have a conversation with any of them. I get along very well with the students from Leeds in England, which is very nice.
It's just very hard to be here right now because I haven't started work and spend most of the day at home with my house mates. I just feel so lonely. I am trying not to complain, but it's really hard. I really need some prayer.

Lose My Soul
see relatedSo I have finally arrived in D.C. I've actually been here for about ten hours. I had a very interesting flight. My flight from Memphis to New York was completely full. When I arrived in New York I had a hour to get off of my flight, walk to another building, go through security again, and get on my connection, but I made it in time, for which I am very thankful. After I arrived in D.C. I claimed my baggage, got in a taxi, picked up my keys, and arrived "home". One thing is for sure, I don't ever want to ride in a taxi again. It was very scary.
My housemates are all very nice and interesting. There are 9 people who live in the townhouse I am staying in and two people who live in an apartment below the townhouse. Three are from England, one from Hawai'i, one from Massachusetts, one from Arizona, one from California, one from Idaho, and we haven't met the others yet.
I'm very tired and have to wake up early tomorrow, so I think I'm going to go to bed.

East to West
see relatedI started packing yesterday and I'm almost finished. All I have left are my shoes and bedding. The closer I get to departure, the more excited and apprehensive I get.
